preparing for your

FAMILY SESSION

Go with the flow.
If you have little ones, it's important that we not force them into poses. They will be much more naturally happy if we play with them, and I am a master at redirecting and capturing genuine moments. It's best to keep these sessions light-hearted and free from pressure.

Be on time.
Your session time is set in direct correlation with the angle of the sun and our scenery, so it's important we start on time to ensure we have the best light!

Bring snack for little ones.
Just in case, bring some tan colored puffs, mini marshmallows, or an un-dyed snack for your kiddos-but don't tell them you have it. We only bring these out if we absolutely have to, otherwise it's best to wait until the end to give out snacks.

general tips

tips and guidance to ensure your session is a great one

Moms
I always recommend choosing mom's dress first and then coordinating from there. Flowy, full length dresses photograph best for a classic, timeless look that will feel like artwork on your walls. Small floral patterns for mom and then solid prints for everyone else make coordinating effortless.

Dads
Light jeans or khakis photograph best, along with solid colored shirts like henleys,
button-ups, nice v-neck t-shirts and sweaters. Avoid patterns, shorts and apple watches.

Children
Cotton, linen and gauze all have a timeless feel and photograph beautifully. Consider dresses for girls and dress boys similar to dad. Consider a romper for babies and toddlers as baby girl dresses ride up and baby boys look darling in overalls and suspenders.

Newborn Babies
I typically bring swaddles and bows for baby so that you don't need to source these items, but please let me know if you have heirloom or sentimental pieces you would like baby to wear

Colors
Avoid bright, bold and dark colors. Instead, stick with neutrals. Colors like beige, linen, ivory, cream, light yellow, pale blue, lavender, sage, light grey, and blush photograph beautifully! The goal here is to put the focus on your family's faces and not draw the eye to the outfits, which is why muted tones work best!

Shoes
For outdoors, neutral colored sandals or dress shoes made out of leather photograph well. Avoid shoes with a bold/colorful sole. For indoors I prefer bare feet, no socks or shoes to give a cozy vibe. We can also go barefoot outside if you're comfortable with it!

Jewelry
Keep jewelry to a minimum and stick with classic or meaningful pieces. Jewelry can quickly date your photographs so, for a timeless feel, keep it simple.

Nails
Clean, neutral nails are best. You don't have to go get them done, but it's a nice excuse to schedule a manicure.
